Brother Robert Burns Day – Repost

Brother Robert Burns
(1759 – 1796)

Robert Burns day is the day when Scottish, Masonic, and people everywhere celebrate the life, poems, and songs of the great Scottish poet, Robert Burns. In 1801 nine of Burns’ closest friends (most likely Masons) gathered to honor the fifth anniversary of his death. While it is not a Masonic tradition, just as Masonic traditions never change, Burns night is celebrated exactly the same way it was that first night. If you wish to celebrate you will need to follow this guide.

May the best you’ve ever seen
Be the worst you’ll ever see;
May a moose ne’er leave yer girnal
Wi’ a teardrop in his e’e.
May ye aye keep hale and hearty
Till ye’re auld enough tae dee,
May ye aye be just as happy
As I wish ye aye tae be.

Our Brother was Initiated an Entered Apprentice on July 4, 1781 in St. David Tarbolton Lodge. Soon after his initiation Brother Burns passed to the degree of Fellowcraft and raised to the Degree of Master Mason on October 1, 1781. Masonic Song
Robert Burns - 1786
 Tune: Shawn-boy," or "Over the water to Charlie.

Ye sons of old Killie, assembled by Willie,
To follow the noble vocation;
Your thrifty old mother has scarce such another
To sit in that honoured station.
I've little to say, but only to pray,
As praying's the ton of your fashion;
A prayer from thee Muse you well may excuse
'Tis seldom her favourite passion.

Ye powers who preside o'er the wind, and the tide,
Who marked each element's border;
Who formed this frame with beneficent aim,
Whose sovereign statute is order:-
Within this dear mansion, may wayward Contention
Or withered Envy ne'er enter;
May secrecy round be the mystical bound,
And brotherly Love be the centre!

Dougie MacLean is another great Scottish singer/musician. It is an obvious fit for him to sing one of Brother Burns’ songs.

Brother Bring A Friend

Brothers,

Our last communication was a First Degree. Bro. Snyder did a fantastic job of arranging and conferring the degree. He will make a fine Master in the years to come.

Our next communication will be January 14, 2020, and is the Brother bring a friend night. If you know of any worthy gentlemen who would be a good fit in Masonry invite him/them along. We will also try a few games after the meeting. Maybe left/right/center, cards, and I may bring the corn hole boards and we can further discuss challenging other Lodges to a tournament.

I hope the New Year is safe, joyous, prosperous, and filled with only the best. My Brothers, look to the future, goodbye to 2019 and hello to 2020 and a new decade. May there be more Light!!!

Respectfully and fraternally,
W:. Glenn

Memorial Night

Brothers,
Tuesday night, November 26, 2019, will be our Memorial Night at the Lodge to remember and honor those Brothers that have laid down the working tools this past year. These are the Brothers who ran the quarries before us and paved the way to keep masonry going so that we could carry on its great works. They should be honored and remembered with respect, and reverence. This is our way as Brothers to say goodbye until we meet again.

This year we had only one Brother enter the Celestial Lodge Above.  Fredric B. Ridenour, Jr.  Our Brother Ridenour became a Mason in 1964.   He was Master in 1971, and when he put down the working tools in October, he did so with 55 years of grand service in The Craft.

Dinner is at 6:30 and we will open at 7:30 prompt. I am told Brother Markus has dinner handled and as always it should be fit for kings. Proper Masonic dress required.

Respectfully and Fraternally,
W:. Glenn Scott
