Two New Master Masons

On Saturday, May 17, 2025, Blazing Star Lodge had the distinct pleasure of witnessing two of our Brothers, Michael Bonica and Nicholas Post, raised to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason. This significant event not only marked the completion of their foundational journey through the Degrees of Freemasonry but also signaled the beginning of their deeper engagement with the principles, responsibilities, and lifelong pursuit of Masonic Light.

Ancient Landmarks Third Degree

The Degree was hosted by Ancient Landmarks Lodge No. 358, which extended their hospitality and conferred the work with precision, dignity, and care. Their ritual work was impressive, and the degree team performed with a level of professionalism and sincerity that truly honored the spirit of the Craft. We extend our heartfelt thanks to Ancient Landmarks Lodge and express our gratitude for the opportunity to labor alongside such dedicated Brothers within the Erie District. Events such as this are a testament to the strength of our fraternal ties across Lodge lines and the shared commitment we all hold to the timeless values of Freemasonry.

Brother Michael Bonica and Brother Nicholas Post are not only newly raised Master Masons—they are already actively shaping the future of our Lodge. Brother Bonica has accepted an appointment to serve as Junior Deacon, and Brother Post has accepted the role of Senior Deacon. Both have stepped forward with eagerness and humility, prepared to learn, serve, and lead as they continue their Masonic journeys.

Even before being raised, both Brothers were already active within the life of the Lodge. They have consistently demonstrated commitment to our fundraisers, taken part in various community service efforts, and have been strong presences at Fellowship events. Their willingness to give of their time and energy has made a positive impact on the Brethren and the broader community we serve. It is clear that they understand Freemasonry is not just about ritual—it is about living the values we profess, and sharing them in a meaningful way with the world around us.

Moments like this serve as a reminder of the strength and vitality of our Lodge and our Fraternity. The future of Freemasonry rests in the hands of dedicated men like Brothers Bonica and Post, men who are willing to take the next step, who seek knowledge, who serve without seeking reward, and who uphold the principles of Brotherly Love, Relief, and Truth.

As we welcome these two Brothers into the full rights and responsibilities of Master Masons, let us also recommit ourselves to supporting them, learning with them, and walking beside them as they continue their path. The work of the Craft is never finished, and with Brothers such as these among us, we know that the Light of Masonry will continue to shine brightly for generations to come.

A special acknowledgment is due to those who took on additional responsibilities, stepping up to ensure the evening’s success. Such acts of dedication keep the traditions and teachings of Freemasonry strong and vibrant.

The journey continues for our new Fellowcraft Brothers, who have taken another important step in their Masonic path. Their growth is a testament to the timeless principles of learning and self-improvement that Masonry upholds. One more Degree awaits them, bringing new knowledge and deeper understanding.

A well-prepared meal is often part of Masonic gatherings, and this evening was no exception. With fine food and good company, the night was made even more memorable—a reminder that Fellowship extends beyond the Lodge room.

Sad News To Report – In Loving Memory of Andrew “Breadman” Egressy

It is my sad duty to report the passing of DSA Brother Andrew S. Egressy. Brother Egressy put down his heavy Earthy working tools of life after 10 years as a Mason.

August 10, 1937 – March 4, 2025

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of DSA Brother Andrew Egressy, who laid down the working tools of life on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at the age of 87, after 10 years as a Master Mason.

Shortly after affiliating with Blazing Star Lodge #694, he introduced a project born from a simple yet troubling realization—food pantries often struggled to obtain sliced bread, a staple in every home. What began as a modest effort soon grew into a remarkable mission. Over the years, he expanded the program significantly, enlisting the help of Brothers from Blazing Star and other Lodges from Erie, PA to Syracuse, NY. His tireless work ensured that food pantries throughout the region received much-needed bread. His efforts did not go unnoticed. He was contacted by a jelly manufacturer who began donating six to ten tons of jelly per year for distribution.

At the request of several Brothers and one specific Grand Lodge Brother, Blazing Star Lodge proudly nominated Brother Egressy for the Distinguished Service Award, an honor reserved for Masons who go above and beyond the usual high standard we as Masons all hold. It was a testament to his unwavering dedication, selflessness, and impact on the community.

Brother Egressy shaped our Lodge in many ways, most notably through his humility, kindness, and immediate friendship. Yet what truly set him apart was his compassion, his relentless drive, and his commitment to a cause that changed lives. His legacy will endure in the lives he touched, in the Lodge he strengthened, and in the example he set for all of us. The work he began will live on through the Brothers of the Bread program, ensuring that food pantries continue to receive the support they need—a lasting testament to his vision, dedication, and generosity.

Rest in eternal peace, dear Brother Andy, your memory lives on in our hearts.

Our Brother was Initiated as an Entered Apprentice on September 19, 2013. Passed to Fellowcraft on October 17, 2013, and Raised to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason on November 14, 2013. Our Brother was Raised to the Celestial Lodge in the sky on March 4, 2025, at the age of 87 and a Mason for 10 years. Our Brother worked the quarry for many years and leaves behind a great legacy. Thank you Brother for all of your contributions to Masonry and to the betterment of humanity. You can rest knowing your good works will live on for years to come.
