Bro. Russ McGregor

Brethren,

It is with great sadness to report that DSA Brother Russ McGregor put down the working tools of life last night (Monday, August 27, 2018). Surrounded by family and friends, Brother Russ passed away very peacefully.  Brother McGregor had been battling lung cancer for some time. Details are still being made but there will be a memorial service at the American Legion probably in mid-September. Please keep the McGregor family in your thoughts and prayers.

Prior to moving to Indiana, Russ was very active in our Lodge and did so many things behind the scenes for us. Things such as the sound system in the Lodge, the dishwasher, plate warmer and several other necessities we enjoy. He provided these things on his own initiative and expense.  We will miss our Brother but take comfort in the realization that we too will one day join him in the Grand Lodge Above.

Funeral Dirge

By David Vinton

Solemn strikes the fun′ral chime,
Notes of our departing time
As we journey here below,
Through a pilgrimage of woe!

Mortals now indulge a tear,
For mortality is near!
See how wide her trophies wave
O′er the slumbers of the grave!

Here another guest we bring––
Seraphs of celestial wing,
To our fun′ral Altar come,
Waft this friend and brother home.

Lord of all! below––above––
Fill our hearts with truth and love
When dissolves our earthly tie,
Take us to Thy Lodge on high.

I was a bit hesitant to post this but remembering Brother Russ I know he would enjoy it.

Grand Lodge Above

Pat & Bill had been Lodge Brothers for many years. They had promised each other long ago that the first to go to the Grand Lodge above would return to tell the other whether there really were Lodges in Heaven and what they were like.   By and by, it came to pass that Bill went first.

One day shortly after, Pat was working in his garden when he heard a whispered voice;

” Pssst Pat!” – He looked around but saw nothing.

A few moments later he heard, now quite clearly

” Pat! It is me, Bill!”

“Bill” Pat exclaimed, ” are you in Heaven?”

” Indeed I am, ” said Bill.

Pat paused for a while to get over the shock and then said;

” Well, Bill, are there Lodges up there in Heaven?”

“There certainly are, Pat. There are Lodges all over and they are quite magnificent, equal or better to Blazing Star Lodge. The meetings are well attended, the ritual is word perfect, the festive board fantastic and the spirit of Masonic Fellowship is all pervasive.”

” My goodness, Bill,” said Pat, ” It certainly sounds very impressive but for all that you seem rather sad. Tell me, old friend, what is the matter.”

” Well, Pat, you are right. I have some good news and some bad.”

” OK, What’s the good news?”

” The good news is that we are doing a 3rd this coming Wednesday”

“Great” said Pat. ” What’s the bad news then?”

” You’re the Senior Deacon! “
